LERN Trauma® is a dynamic Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) presentation created and developed by Josh Delahan, LCSW. Josh has been studying and teaching trauma-related information and doing trauma-focused modalities since 2002. LERN Trauma® is a culmination of both the informational and hands-on aspects of doing TIC work. It goes beyond statistics and gets down to helpful definitions, eye-opening aspects of trauma, as well as ways that you and your staff can implement direct TIC techniques that are easy to learn and helpful for anyone struggling with the effects of psychological trauma. Each presentation is tailor-made to the hiring agency's audience and varies in length from two hours to multiple eight-hour sessions. There is a flat rate per-hour fee for each presentation and does not increase with the number of participants. (All printed materials are the responsibility of the hiring agency.) If you are interested, please contact Josh directly at newleaftherapiesllc@gmail.com or (414)587-0012.

Some of the program's goals are:

  • Increase participants’ knowledge of TIC topics such as psychological trauma, dissociation, emotional regulation/dysregulation, developmental trauma, simple and complex PTSD, chronic neglect, and other factors that affect clients’ behaviors
  • Develop a common set of terms which will allow staff to communicate effectively about TIC
  • Use TIC concepts to create an environment that will reduce the need for direct intervention
  • Discuss the differences with traditional forms of discipline and why the TIC methods work well with your unique population
  • Acquire tools to identify and increase ability to work with a dysregulated client
  • Learn and practice brain-based interventions to help increase regulation within a struggling client
  • Discuss the most advantageous time to teach important lessons about personal responsibility with a traumatized client
  • Learn evidence-based approaches to trauma-resolution
  • Learn information about state-of-the-art therapies that are being used by certified TIC therapists.
  • Focus on theory and practice of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) as well as Somatic Experiencing (SE).
